BlastBlock soundproofing materials

BlastBlock is a mass loaded vinyl (MLV) soundproofing membrane weighing nominally 5 kg/m² at approximately 3 mm thick. Manufacturer data, reference BB830/20/v2, gives STC 32 for the material alone and up to STC 68 in a double-stud assembly with mineral wool. It installs in walls, ceilings, floors, ductwork and machine enclosures, and cuts with a utility knife. Stock is held in Bangkok.

Those are laboratory values. Field performance is normally lower — see the STC table by wall build-up.

Installation accessories

Performance is decided by how completely the assembly is sealed. An open area of roughly 1% of a wall can cap transmission loss at around 20 dB whatever the build-up, which is why sealant, adhesive and putty pads are not optional extras.
